mnml ssgs mx11: silent servant

'fuck you. this is techno!' that is probably how we'd describe the message conveyed in the latest ssg mix from silent servant. this is some serious techno. wow. it makes for a very nice contrast to the summer beats of the last ssg mix by ana. but then again, when you ask someone from sandwell district to do a mix for you, what do you expect? silent servant has released two eps on the shadowy label, and may well have some more in the pipeline (lets hope so). if you want to find out more about sandwell district, make sure to check richard brophy's excellent piece on them over at RA (for my mind one of the best features on RA all year). since then, we've been thinking about getting someone from the label to do a ssg mx, and silent servant seemed like the perfect candidate. and as you'll hear, he really came through with the goods. this mix carries on in the mighty tradition of the downwards collective, mixing together a set of raw, dynamic, pulsating sounds. enough talk, onto the tracklisting and mix.

  1. Howdy,
Not sure if I'm doing something idiotic, but for some reason I have not been able to open the past two mixes. It will download the full amount and then claims the file cannot be found (I use a macbook). I have not had this problem with any other site, but then again, no one seems to be having this problem.

Anyhoo, just wanted to give you the heads up if they're might be an issue with your server or somethin'. The mixes look killer though!

  9. that tracklist alone screams "download me now or you're a fool." nice work! will give this a listen at some point this week and let you know how i feel - unlike most, i wasn't totally hooked on the ana mix, so i'm hoping this makes up for it. *prepares for backlash on that last comment*

  10. @ eric: what i found really interesting about the ana mix is the varied responses, the reaction of some was a bit mixed, others really loved it. different people/different vibes, eh?

i will try to stay impartial, but nonetheless, i have to say this effort by SS is one of my favourites in the series so far.

  11. well, i loved the first 45 - 50min. of the ana mix - brilliant selections and choice mixing...but that's where it ended. the rest seemed kitschy and "in the now" with those quirky ar:pi:ar-esque tracks and some obscure, chin-stroker moments.

  13. real quality mix, as always with the ssg mixes.

i agree with chris that this is one of the best in an excellent series so far; i know they're only going to get better, though. the fact that you guys have a mix coming from someone on raster noton is testament to how good things are about to get.

great mix, this is the real deal, this guy understands what is real techno, great!
all ssgs are great, hope it will only get better, keep the real techno sound alive.
i tried to download some older ssgs, gave me an error at 99%..

  16. if you use the panel on the right side of the main page, all the download links to old ssg mixes should work there. if there are any ones you are still having problems with, tell me, and i'll organise uploading a mirror soon.

basically the series has become more popular than we expected, which means we've had some server issues etc. sorry, we are trying our best!

  21. Yo this mix is most definitely the truth. This is the sound I want techno to gravitate towards in '09.
Dettman, Silent Servant, Donato Dozzy and others will lead us deeper into the tunnel...

  25. I don't know why there isn't any person yet that mentions the bitrate of this. For the nml ssgs crew, do you have a better quality mp3 of this great set? Thanks.

  26. @ adit: sorry, that is what we got. we try to make sure the mixes are always at least 160kbps (preferably 320kbps) and we share with you whatever we have...
