mnml ssgs mx21: cio d'or

as many readers know, cio 'dor is a big favourite with the ssgs. her carefully crafted mixes have been on constant repeat, and the 'aroma' ep she released with paul brtschitsch was one of the best records of 2008. we are very happy she has been able to contribute a mix, as her approach to DJ'ing reflects exactly what we are trying to do with this mix series: unique, special artists digging deep and producing mixes that strongly reflect their sound and their personalities. the aim is not simply another mp3 to be deleted next week, but something that will last. and this is what cio has done: a distinctive and powerful mix of deep techno sounds. as per the standard format, we'll post the tracklisting along with an interview next week. just to give you a taste, though, the mix does have some unreleased cuts, including from a new ep by cio and donato dozzy. it is coming out in may on time to express, peter van hoesen's label which is going from strength to strength.

enough talking, on to the mix. the sound cio is playing - what we call headfuck/mindfuck techno - is what really excites me these days. stripped back, elemental techno at its very best...

  1. Another great ssgs mix, many thanks for that, once again!
She has indeed her very own sound, something to admire. One of my personal favourites also. ;-)

  2. damn...

just when i thought it would be almost impossible to come close to how good the dozzy and fengler podcasts were, cio brings out some heat and blows my mind.

loving this mix. i need to move to europe and start being able to hear music like this all the time...the states are too caught up in minimal bullshit to appreciate something this tasteful and true to the term "techno."

  8. I was lucky enough to catch Cio in Tokyo last November, and she was pretty fucking amazing - she served up about 3 hours of deep hypnotic headfuck techno that was absolutely perfect for the almost pitch black basement club we were in (Module, in Shibuya ... Dettmann's playing there next Thursday, which should be awesome).

She's definitely got her own sound signature, which I think is absolutely crucial for a DJ to develop ...

  9. I can't stop listening to this mix... My head...

It's even better than the mix of Donato at Labyrinth, but that's personal taste of course.

Pffff, sick sick sick sick stuff. Techno at it's best. Stripped, hypnotizing, tracks becoming one, merging with eachother.

    Beautiful!

  12. OMG - how good is this woman ?!
This is just brilliant. She has been incapable of doing any wrong in anything I have heard of hers to date, now this just cements her place as a luminary of the craft.

Thanks again guys for putting up another beauty.

  14. cheers guys. This is great. The only other SSGS mix I have is the Dozzy one so you're keeping the standard high. Sometimes find it a bit hard to keep up with the pace of mixes being pumped out - sometimes nice to have a neat (ie not 2-4 hours) mix I can listen to the whole way.

Are there many artist albums that carry this style of sound or are they mainly mixes and EPs?

  18. This mix has held my attention completely unlike anything since Marcel Fengler. Track selection is perfect - it's deep, dark and heavy without being too cold and machine like. Fantastic work ssgs.

  20. Haven't listened yet, but have two class mixes of hers that get very regular plays. It's been a while since I've had internet access, so looking forward to reading the last 2 months of mnml ssgs.

  22. Great stuff, really enjoying this. Fengler is still the favourite though.

  23. Its just terrible that we have to listen to this exceptional mix in 128 kbps encoded in iTunes. There really should be a lossless download alternative- think.

Great site and mix once again! Cio D'or will be in Stockholm soon and i will dance like it was no tomorrow.

  24. @ flac: most of our mixes are 320kbps. this one is only 128kbps because it has some unreleased tracks.

  25. Chris: yeah , should have realized. i felt bad being so grumpy i made you a wordle of mnml ssgs for january.
