Kangding Ray tracklist

Last week Kangding Ray released one of the best albums of 2011: "OR". He also released of the best mixes of the year right here at mnml ssgs. Not a bad week... Then again, this is totally in keeping with Kangding's track record, perhaps his defining aspect as a musician is less a certain sound or approach, and more the overriding quality of his music.

And I think revealing the tracklist shows the full brilliance of Kangding's mix, the way he managed to successfully layer and combine different compositions to make something wholly new and unique. This is exactly the kind of mix where delaying the tracklist makes sense. I know I gained an extra level of appreciation for the mix after I saw what he had done.

Steve Reich "Come out"  +  Rhythm & Sound "Outward"
Oneohtrix Point Never "Returnal feat. Antony (Fennesz Remix)" + Mark Fell "Multistability 1-B"
Deadbeat "Loneliness and reverly" + These New Puritans "Drum Courts - Where Corals Lie"
Coh "Andante Facile" + Pole "Alles Klar"
Nam June Paik "My jubilee ist unverhemmet" + Alva Noto "Future"
Ben Frost "Leo Needs A New Pair Of Shoes" + Ricardo Villalobos "Fools garden (black conga)"
Ø "Ionos" + Emeralds "It Doesn't Arrive"
Richie Hawtin "00:24" + Deaf Center "Lobby"
Various Production "Infinity (xx cover)" + Senking "Breathing Trouble"
Pomassl "Tandem distiller" + Lissom "Bask"
Fever Ray "If I Had A Heart (Fuck Buttons Remix)" + Ital Tek "Tokyo freeze (Remix)"
Codes in the Clouds "The Distance Between Us (Nils Frahm Remix)" + Vex'd "Slime"

If you haven't heard either "OR" or this mix, I would strongly encourage you to rectify that quickly, this is music you should hear.

  7. I'm a vinyl sucker, but Raster Noton feels completely at home on digital for me. They lend themselves to the cold digital transmission. Also, i feel you really really really have to listen to RN on high end speakers, in a space with lots of room for the high end to breath, to really appreciate it fully. I spun OR on my car hifi today and it just didn't do it the service it deserves. Spend stupid money on kit and you will be richly rewarded by this album, fucking immense.

  9. agree with giorgio, this mix is a bit 'busy' at points but who cares, it's a nice insight. His Stabil album inspired me to start producing music and turned me on to a whole new genre. Good times.

  10. Brilliant comboneering! Excellent mixing and ear! You, Mr. Letellier, know what this is all about. Hell Yeah

PS. In all fairness, the Various Production bit lost me for a while, but no good path is without its marshy overgrown points one really has to think their way out of. Besides, I picked up the scent again while swimming inside the final selections! THANK YOU ;)

i'm assuming the messy bit is infinity & senking...and it's the best mess i've ever heard.

truly awesome sounds going on throughout this.
