time out
you may have noticed things have been a bit quiet around here lately, basically PC has been having some time out and i haven't had much to say. in terms of the blog, i'm feeling a bit out of sync right now. i am really enjoying music a lot, there are plenty of releases - new and old - that are keeping me happy and getting me excited, but i have little desire to talk much about them, and i've been increasingly disenchanted with the insipid circle jerking that constitutes most online commentary recently. i'm also concerned this is a problem i am contributing to, rather than resisting or improving on. it is a tough one to balance... anyway, i'll be continuing to take some time out while i think about this and some other stuff. there will be some posts coming up soon, but probably nothing too detailed, not until i feel there is something to say, and that i can do so in a more productive manner than the acritical platitudes that too often serve in the place of substance. in the meantime, for people in tokyo, prosumer is playing tomorrow at eleven, and then steffi & nick hoppner next week, so hope to see some of you there for a boogie. and for everyone else, i'll still be making a decent amount of noise on the ssgs twitter.

haha funny you should say that. I just popped on a few places and the circle jerking I think you refer to was immediately what sprang to mind. I then popped on here for the first time in a few weeks in search of something a bit more avant garde and your signing off!JERK!
ReplyDeletethats sad because you like doing noise in twitter but not here?
ReplyDeletei think 1 post here is worth more than 100 tweets or whatever you call them:) i do read your tiwtter because you post some interesting stuff there, but everything gets lost in few days over there.. why dont you do the same thing over here just not every 5 minutes but once a week?:)
@ bren: apologies, i will start working on something super avant garde for you!
ReplyDelete@ rokas: it is mainly to do with convenience. twitter is very quick & easy to do. and it is a different kind of engagement. posts take more time, energy & thought.
yeha i understand it is easy and quick :) but also has got 0 value in long term (understand what im trying to say?). it could be like twitter week roundup haha:) never stop just because somebody says something :)
ReplyDeletedo not fret chris..
ReplyDeletei am pretty happy with this pace : )
that picture is throwing me off, is their a techno baby on the way ?
ReplyDelete* I SAW A MAN PURSUING
ReplyDeleteI saw a man pursuing the horizon;
Round and round they sped.
I was disturbed at this;
I accosted the man.
"It is futile," I said,
"You can never -- "
You lie," he cried,
And ran on.

Thanks for your creative resistance guys.
Do not give up Chris. Your blog for me as a breath of fresh air.
ReplyDeleteI live in Russia where 95% of people do not realize that i play, but it does not stop me.
I will wait for your new messages.
Sorry for my english.
With best wishes.
Kirill
Aww, and here I was waiting for the Mnmls Ssgs Super Ssgcast Exchange Exclusive, with you and Peter talking about yourselves and the state of dance music and all the hepcat DJs you hang with.
ReplyDeletethe biscuit is getting mighty soggy...
besides some cool mixes, there hasn't been a remotely interesting post on here in years.

ReplyDeleteLook forward to "time in"
Honestly, the comment about the 'circle jerking' feels a bit double. Almost every post on the blog uses superlatives like amazing, special, very interesting, perfect etc to describe artists, records or mixes, so some readers may be hesitant to be critical and rather just ignore a podcast or artist they don't like. Just my 2 cents...
ReplyDeletewhy should anyone not share their thoughts? i dont get it.. either i like what you say or im not invited?
ReplyDeleteA post like 'a very special mix by the great artist x who releases on our favorite label y and played an awesome set at festival z' is a very biased/colored way to start a discussion. People can still share their opinion, but it's clear that the author has already made up his/her mind.
ReplyDeleteObviously some subjectivity is a must, but putting out a more neutral description would help to provoke a better discussion.
this thread is ridiculous!
ReplyDeletelong live the ssgs!
Sweetness, sweetness I was only joking
ReplyDeleteWhen I said I'd like to smash every tooth
In your head
Oh ... sweetness, sweetness, I was only joking
When I said by rights you should be
Bludgeoned in your bed
And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her roman nose
And her Walkman started to melt
Oh ...
Bigmouth, la ... bigmouth, la ...
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
Oh, bigmouth, la ... bigmouth, la
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
And now I know how Joan of Arc felt
Now I know how Joan of Arc felt
As the flames rose to her roman nose
And her hearing aid started to melt
Bigmouth, la ... bigmouth, la ...
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
Oh ...
Bigmouth, oh ... bigmouth, la ...
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
Oh ...
Bigmouth, oh ... bigmouth, la ...
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
Oh ...
Bigmouth, oh ... bigmouth, la ...
Bigmouth strikes again
And I've got no right to take my place
With the Human race
Oh ..
circle jerking indeed.
ReplyDeleteseems all the blogs r 1. is it really about the music or a scene?
circle jerking... no idea what this means but there sure is a lot of poop posted in forums. stopped bothering years ago. here i find things just to my taste. please do keep on showing us what you like. if people respond or respond negatively it shouldnt matter. its the content that counts & it is appreciated by some of us. very much. subjecvtivity is fine by me (its our choice to be here) its up to us whether we agree with what you and other blogs post or not. and i hope people will continue to do so when they dont - forget the attentio seekers trying to get a rise out of people cos their lives are so shit... fuck the 'scene' too. I'm with Jay Haze on this BIG TIME. long live the music - it will continue to speak for itself even when all bloggers get bored posting about it. i personally prefer to listen rather than read most of the time anyway ... just dont like reading from the computer.prefer a good old fashioned book anyday. connections without the need to say or even do are the most powerful and eternal anyway.
ReplyDeletePEOPLE POWER!
ReplyDelete"in the meantime, for people in tokyo, prosumer is playing tomorrow at eleven,"
ReplyDeletethis is your problem, you need a wider circle
