ssg special: falko brocksieper

today we have something new for all the ssgs out there, a new irregular series we are going to call 'ssg special'. this will basically be a way for us to showcase some nice mixes that our friends have passed on to us. just because we will be stopping the main mnml ssgs mx series, it doesn't mean that we will also be stopping the supply of tasty mixes.

what got our asses into gear was when falko sent us this lovely mix. we jumped at the opportunity to host something from him again, after his killer ssg mix last year. i'm not sure exactly what it is about falko, but i love the way he DJ's - he just has such a good groove and feel for the records. things really flow when falko is in control.

according to falko, this one is a bit more deeper, showing off his 'dark' side. well, if this is his dark side, i think he is a lot more mentally healthy and happy than me (and a lot of other people, i imagine)... not much more to add really, a quality mix from a quality dj and person. get on it.
falko brocksieper - dark whisperings mix

Dino Sabatini & Donato Dozzy - Nocturnal (Prologue)

Leigh Dickson - Praise / Baby Ford's Heavenly Circuit Remix (Qube)
Coordinates - In Cycles (Sub Static)
Lopazz & Eddie Zarook - Twotwo (Apparel)
Lula Circus - Desperhate / Danilo Schneider Remix (Brouqade)
Mike Shannon - Under The Radar / Ricardo Villalobos Remix (Cynosure)
Richard Bartz - München 70 (Disko B)
The Railway Raver - To Be A Man Like Ingerso (Rephlex)
Peter Grummich - The Garden (Karloff)

enjoy. looks like we should have another one in this series in a few weeks. next up, though, will be ssg mx50 from another good friend of ours, which should be dropping start of next week.

  3. '...if this is his dark side, i think he is a lot more mentally healthy and happy than me (and a lot of other people, i imagine)...'

I concur. As a depressive - with a sense of humour - this made me laugh. Laughter in the dark but laughter nonetheless. There's yin, there's yang - and then there's just yin.

    Gonna give this a lash.

  4. hmmmok, 'dark' is not the perfect match. maybe just a bit dusky? i guess i got misled while desperately trying to avoid the word 'deep'.
it's almost like 'minimal' a few years back.
    "are you doing minimal?"
    "hmmmmyees but noo....."
    (insert longer speech here)
    ;)

  6. nice set. but in my opinion a litle bit boring (in german. belanglos, es plätschert so vor sich hin:). lovely music for elevators.

i missing the deep but in the same way "straight" moments like 23-25 min. anybody know this track.id?

  7. listening as i write...

very fascinating mix... at some moments really breathtaking.

    thanks for the share!

  8. "avoid the word deep", it always cheers me when I see just how limited language is when describing music. "That for which we find words is something already dead in our hearts" and all that.

  10. looking fwd to a listen.

totally respect this site, but it is becoming more evident that chris is not in a good place mentally, as he consistently notes something regarding how difficult life has been the last year. i get that some people are depressives and i am thankful that i am the opposite...but its a bit of buzz kill checking in w/ ssgs, only to find yet another 'woah is me' type remark thrown in. brother get some proper help, make some changes, if life is that troubling. all the best and be well.

  11. @ Steven: with all due respect, Chris has been in circumstances which were, until recently, beyond his short-term control.

He has taken steps and changed his situation, and during the time he's been struggling, he's demonstrated incredible resilience. More than most are capable of, I would say.

Chris and I were adamant about posting 'what we feel strongly' from the get go - and if that means talking about being in a bad headspace and a fucked up situation and getting through it with the help of music, then that is something not only acceptable, I think, but worth cherishing.

Buzz kill?? You are talking about people's lives, dude...

...besides which, I think we all should be a little more frank about discussing ALL our headstates with each other. My mother has suffered from severe episodal depression for many years, and the worst thing of all is the cycle of guilt, shame, anxiety that goes along with it... the fear of the depression and the inability to look it in the eye and treat it as an enemy worthy of her mettle has always been more destructive than almost anything else.

...that's not to say that we want SSGs to become some kind of sad sack forum. We don't enjoy being blue to black - we're not goths - but shit is real, you know?

  12. @ Steven: well, PC said much of it, thanks. yes, i havent been in a good place mentally, and so i've made changes. today i finished my job. tomorrow i leave the UK. next week i start a new life. i havent been happy, so i'm making big changes. all i'd say is you should be glad that i've been able to devote so much time & energy into this blog, despite often being in a bad place mentally. anyway, i am not going to apologise for being myself & being honest. that is me, that is this blog. ssgs has become much bigger than we planned, but we are still going to do it on our terms.

  15. @ chris: the blog is one of the best around in it's genre, so my deepest thanks for running it & i also think you deserve a lot of respect for being outspoken about a very dark and complicated topic; being 'real', and sharing your innermost fears & insecurities, as you all know, is one of the most difficult things in life. i sincerely wish you all the best!

  16. Wow! Thanks for this special mix, really dig Falko's take on music - and the words associated with description.

And on the "mind-set" thing: well, this is a BLOG. I see the recommended mixes, releases, labels and the ssg mixes as an extension of these peoples' (people doing this blog, chris, PC and sometimes others) take on the "world". I am glad that there are readers who connect with this take on the world, through music and not just that (ok, this sounds cheesy but have not other expressions, sorry). I like to know about those people who rate a record or an artist 5/5 or 1/5, because it is not just floating around like a bloodless review. But that is just me, sorry.

    Cheers!

  17. wow falko wow

this is not dark, for me its totally uplifting...

    wow

    what a beauty
falko...youre my man of the last couple months...

im just visiting drizzle berlin early saturday evening,
    just cant stop walking,
this beauty nearly move me to tears,
    serious,
    im deeply stirred of this,
this fits perfectly to my pending mood a.t.m.

bigbig thx for this as well,
    wll send you flowers falko...

  18. Tight as hell mix, loved it. I would say moments of melancholy abound. I can see why Falko would describe it as dark, and others (who obviously enjoy melancholy), say it is uplifting.

This one is for keeping for sure.

  19. @ CHRIS:

man i wish you the best in your new changes and did not mean to come across harsh if I did. you are doing the right thing to shake up a situation that sounds like it needed shook. be strong man, everyday is new day for real, not cliche.

    @ PC

thanks for the background. i have been a special education teacher i for almost 7 years and completely get the 'realness' side of life...along w other situations i've encountered. fair play to the blog point you made as well, if i'm tuning into a site that you deliberately have put on the internet to share a glimpse into your world, i should expect and respect with what is presented.

cheers to both of you, please keep on doing your thing...you have my support, for what thats worth :)
