delta force

just a quick post for now, full report on NYC to come. since getting back, i've had these two sets from delta funktionen on repeat. this artist has been on my radar for a bit now, but as is often the case, it took hearing a liveset for me to fully sign up. he is still a relatively new artist, but his sound is already well developed, which is particularly clear in the livepa. what impresses me about the livepa is how well put together it is - the whole thing has a great pacing and build. as for the dj set, well the tracklisting pretty much speaks for itself. deep and dark. nice.

  12. Still trying to catch up: I really enjoyed both the Live PA and DJ mix.

The Live PA is one of the best I have heard. Niels is an exceptionally talented producer. I was particularly impressed with its progression. It reminded me of a well crafted DJ set. (I echo your sentiments, Chris.) In my opinion, many Live PA's are too linear and, honestly, just plain boring. I was also pleased with the diversity of tracks, which probably has to do with his many production outfits. Yet, the tracks were fundamentally similar, which I think is the hallmark of a great producer.

As for the DJ mix, I was really feeling it up to Marcel Dettmann's A Req (T++ Remix). I, however, thought it lost its way afterward until the dubby elements were introduced, which brought cohesion back to the mix. I especially resonated with the last Pom Pom track. (I wager that 2009 is going to be the year of Pom Pom.) Overall, it's definitely one of the best mixes I've heard in 2009.

  13. @ benjamin: yeah, that pom pom track at the end is so fucking deep. definitely my favourite cut on the album. i have tried very hard to get a pom pom ssg mix without success. shame. sometimes he/she/them are a bit too hidden...

  14. Agreed. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the whole anonymity thing. Chris, what Pom Pom release is that track from?
